Saw it on premiere on september 24 at Budapest's Corvin Mozi.
Probably the most essential thing to know about this movie is that it was made for television in the first place and later they considered pushing it into the Oscars, for big screens, as they thought it has the potential to win something. It probably has that potential but I don't think that it would be because the movie is that good. maybe for the acting as it was quite strong from the two main protagonists, or for the screenplay. Oh and for the music, that is indeed Oscar-worthy for today's standards. But if for anything other than that. well, then I would smell something fishinness behind that.
So as a TV movie this picture is far better than great. It has a distinctive visual atmosphere with its gray fuminess and late, cold autumny colors, the cinematography is beyond adequate for such TV movie norma, the world the story plays in is really authentic, beholds many details that reflects those old times. The dialouges are clevelry written, they behold the realism but also some theatrical factor for dramatic purposes. The acting is top-notch from the main protagonists, they bring well detailed characteristics into their relationship by which we really hold their connection close to our hearts, but overall all the cast did a good job. The soundtrack has probably the most appeal for an award as it has that really almost-but-not-yet cheesiness that can easily win your ears over, but overall a very pleasant music to listen to, reminded me of Clint Mansell's previous works.
What the whole movie might fall short on is the world building that plays in the post-war dictaturic times. There are some snipets about the oppression they maintained on all these people lived in the post-war city, however, other than having some tricky questions from the "comrades" it never went further than that, it didn't fully bring the overall alienating effect it should have for the story/narrative. It was kinda like only a world building element in order to remind the auidence what times this plays in, never fully did anything more than that. And probably, the ending, which refers onto this dictature didn't feel that cathartic, because of that "only-world-building-element" reason.
Talking with others on premiere some people found the whole fast paced evolution of the protagoninst's relationship unconvincing and out of place, that it needed much deeper, elaborative, slower tendencies to go through. Personaly I had no issue with it at all. I found the relationship really natural and organic in its own way, it was indeed a connection that is not that easily achievable by anyone, but these two somehow had the luck to have a mostly healthy relationship that helped both of them in some ways to heal all the scars the war times brought onto them.
So. basicly, that's all I got to say about this movie. From TV movie standpoints I found it really solidly done, a nicely put together motion picture that is pleasant to watch. For Oscar worthy theatrical experience it might fall behind a bit as it has some lack of details and elaboratness, so - even though I have no respect for Oscars nowadays - I kinda feel this movie has only oscar-worthiness on a few, specific fields and even there there is always much bigger fishes to fight against on awards like this. Again, if it wins any award other than the music, acting, or (maybe) for screenplay then there is something fishy back there in Hollywood (but it's Hollywood, the Oscars, so there is more dirty business than anything else today.

He said that the film does not take sides politically, and that his goal was instead to satirize “both sides” of the partisan divide. “Our ambition was to poke at both sides of the aisle equally, ” he wrote. “We seek to entertain and unify, not enrage and divide. Cuse is a registered Republican who nevertheless gave to Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2017. While it was previously unclear whether the film would ever be released, the satire will reportedly hit theaters on March 13. The tongue-in-cheek film has an ensemble cast that includes Hilary Swank, Justin Hartley, Betty Gilpin, Emma Roberts and Ike Barinholtz, and it comes from Blumhouse Productions, the production company behind social thrillers like Get Out and The Purge and horror films like Paranormal Activity and Insidious. But the film, written by Nick Cuse and Damon Lindelof and directed by Craig Zobel, all of whom worked on the HBO series The Leftovers, has caused controversy — both before Universal’s decision to cancel the release, and after. Zobel and producer Jason Blum, the founder of Blumhouse Productions, both recently spoke out about the film’s controversy. Here’s what to know about the controversy surrounding The Hunt and its release. What is The Hunt about? The Hunt stars Hilary Swank as a leader of the evidently liberal group of wealthy Americans known as “elites” who set out to kidnap and hunt down other citizens known as “deplorables” for fun, according to The Hollywood Reporter ( THR). Twelve people, including characters played by Roberts of American Horror Story, Gilpin of GLOW, Barinholtz of The Mindy Project and This Is Us’ Hartley, wake up in a clearing. “They don’t know where they are, or how they got there, ” the movie’s IMDb page says. “They don’t know they’ve been chosen for a very specific purpose — The Hunt. ” When reporting the news on Aug. 6 that some networks were deciding not to run the film’s trailer following recent mass shootings, the Hollywood Reporter shared two lines allegedly from the film’s script. After one character makes an expletive-laden reference to the nation’s president, another finds solace in the upcoming killing game: “At least The Hunt’s coming up. Nothing better than going out to the Manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables. ” Throughout the film, those being hunted use assault rifles and other weapons in their attempts to defeat the elite and save themselves — Americans described by THR as conservatives. In the trailer, some characters say they hail from red states such as Mississippi, Wyoming and Florida. The term “deplorables” was most famously used as a moniker for the now-president’s base of voters when Hillary Clinton said it while campaigning in 2016: “You could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. ” Clinton continued to say that those in the basket were “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic – you name it. ” Why did Universal cancel the release of The Hunt? Universal canceled The Hunt ‘s release indefinitely following criticism, including from President Trump, in the wake of two mass shootings that killed 31 people in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, on Aug. 3 and 4, respectively. The studio first pulled the film’s trailers and marketing materials after the shootings, but later decided to cancel the release indefinitely. The shooter in El Paso said he targeted Mexicans as he killed 22 and injured two dozen others with a semi-automatic gun at a Walmart store in the U. S. -Mexico border city. The Dayton shooter, whose motive has not yet been determined by investigators, killed nine bar patrons in under 30 seconds before being killed by law enforcement. “While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film, ” Universal said in a statement shared on the film’s website. “We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film. ” In a previous statement on Aug. 8, the studio told TIME that it was “out of sensitivity to the attention on the country’s recent shooting tragedies, Universal Pictures and the filmmakers of The Hunt have temporarily paused its marketing campaign and are reviewing materials as we move forward. ” Officially announced Saturday, the decision to pull the film came immediately after President Trump criticized the movie on Twitter. Though the president did not name the film, he said “Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level” in a tweet on Friday. “The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others, ” he said. The president had recently been criticized anew for his anti-immigrant rhetoric, which some say has contributed to a culture of violence and mass shootings. “The threat of white supremacy and white-nationalist terrorism has to be met with the urgency that it demands. And we have not seen that, ” 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke, who represented El Paso in Congress from 2013 until this year, told TIME in a recent interview. What has the reaction to the cancellation been so far? Zobel, the film’s director, responded to the cancellation in an interview with Variety on Aug. 19. “Our ambition was to poke at both sides of the aisle equally, ” he said. “We seek to entertain and unify, not enrage and divide. It is up to the viewers to decide what their takeaway will be. ” The director, known for Compliance and Z for Zachariah, said that the movie’s plot was misunderstood by critics. “I wanted to make a fun, action thriller that satirized this moment in our culture — where we jump to assume we know someone’s beliefs because of which ‘team’ we think they’re on… and then start shouting at them, ” he said. Blum, a producer of the movie, said in an interview with Vulture published on Aug. 16 that he does not regret making the movie. “If I was offered the choice to make the movie again, I would say yes, ” he said. Still, in light of the El Paso and Dayton shootings, Zobel said he agreed with the studio’s decision. “These types of moments happen far too often. In the wake of these horrific events, we immediately considered what it meant for the timing of our film. Once inaccurate assumptions about the content and intent of the movie began to take hold, I supported the decision to move the film off its release date, ” he said. As Zobel’s comments reflect, some, like Trump, assumed that the movie is anti-conservative, while others felt differently, pointing to its marketing as a satire. Many struggled to discern whether it is the presumed liberals or conservatives who serve as the story’s heroes or villains. Trump tweeted about the Jason Blum-produced movie soon after Fox & Friends discussed it, and his 2020 campaign’s press secretary tweeted that she was “glad” Universal canceled its release. “A movie about elites hunting ‘deplorables, '” Kayleigh McEnany said, “and they call it ‘satire! '” But the conservative news magazine The National Review was not on the same page. “For once, a genre movie was built around an anti-progressive premise, ” the magazine said. “President Trump doesn’t have the most finely tuned irony gauge; he seemed unable to understand that the globalists in the film are plainly the bad guys and that the trailer was satirizing rather than saluting the hunters it portrays. ” Atlantic columnist Adam Serwer said in a tweet that the president “misread the right wing politics of an upcoming film as left wing, ” resulting in the film’s cancellation. Those involved with the movie had not made any statements on its cancellation at press time. Will Universal ever release the film? On Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Universal has set a new release date of March 13, with a wide release to 3, 000 theaters nationwide. Blum said that the studio considered The Hunt to be similar to recent violent blockbusters, including the Oscar-winning film The Joker, which saw its own spate of controversy, but did extremely well at the box office and throughout the awards season. “It was read as a satire, no different from The Joker or other movies that are violent, ” Blum told The Hollywood Reporter. “It was read as a movie that didn’t take sides. ” The film’s promotional materials have been edited to reflect the controversy as a selling point rather than a scandal. The new movie poster reads: “The most talked about movie of the year is one that no one’s actually seen, ” and “Decide for yourself. ” The Sept. 27 date is crossed out, with March 13 right next to it. The background of the poster features lines from news reports about the controversy, including one from TIME that reads, “Not appropriate. ” (While TIME did not assert that claim, Lanae Erickson, Senior Vice President for the Social Policy and Politics at Third Way, a D. Alan Markfield/Twentieth Century Fox Underwater Directed by William Eubank Action, Drama, Horror, Mystery, Thriller PG-13 1h 35m More Information Early on in this mercifully short horror picture, a crew member — one of a handful trapped nearly seven miles beneath the ocean in a collapsing futuristic oil rig — wrests from the sea an aggressive, super-gnarly-looking creature, which he brings to show the gang. “Oh no, ” a viewer might think, “you never bring the gnarly-looking thing back on the ship. Has no one in this movie seen ‘Alien? ’” Maybe, maybe not, but it doesn’t matter, as the thing doesn’t get to do much in that moment. Welcome to the world of “Underwater, ” a movie whose own sea legs are so wobbly, you’re never quite sure whether that weak fake-out was even deliberate. Directed by William Eubank from a script by Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad, it tries to establish some “Alien”-of-the-deep bona fides with its lead, Kristen Stewart, being lean, taciturn and intense in the opening scene. Stewart may well be as consequential a screen actress as Sigourney Weaver, but dreck like this isn’t going to build a comparable filmography. The crew member who finds the gnarly thing is played by T. J. Miller. The film wrapped before his brush with the law. While this may have contributed to the movie’s long shelving, Miller’s hardly the only problem here. It’s a challenge to keep action coherent and build suspense in the submerged environment simulated in “Underwater, ” but Eubank doesn’t meet it, instead falling back on stale shocks that are not credibly buttressed by swelling bass effects on the soundtrack. And the final form of the menacing sea creature is in its way as laughable as the carpet monster in the 1964 cinematic mishap “The Creeping Terror. ” Underwater Rated PG-13 for gnarly looking things and bass-boosted shock scares. Χίλια Εννιακόσια Δεκαεπτά Watch streaming sur internet. When I first heard that this movie was going to be following the one-shot technique, I was hesitant to watch it. There is a reason why cuts are made. So that the eyes don't get stuck on one scene for too long and the viewer loses interest.
But while watching the movie, the way Mendes and his cinematographer cleverly use their sets and surroundings to change the scene and the location of the camera without having to cut. For that type of coordination and control, a lot of effort went into set building and scene planning with cast and crew.
Basically, the cinematography was brilliant.
That, and a really good cast of talented actors with incredible music from Thomas Newman. br> Of course the movie won best picture drama at the golden globes.
Do yourself a favor and watch it.

So I loved the idea of the storyline. It being in Spanish made it that much more awesome. William and Alicia played great chemistry between their characters even not long after they met each other in character you can see the chemistry "Victor" and "Sarai" gave off each other without words. And I felt the action was there in the movie. I'm hoping they continue the book series into movies.
